Our Team of Instructors and Volunteers Rick Courtney. BA, CCRIM, CSS, EMR Rick is CEO of the company with an extensive background in safety and training. A Master Instructor Trainer, there's nothing Rick won't tackle. He has a background as an Emergency Medical Responder (Paramedic Level), Construction Safety Supervisor, Advance Auditor, Driver Education Trainer, Non Violence Crisis Intervention Educator, and has written many safety manuals. Claude Comeau is a PCP - Primary Care Paramedic. He is currently studying to be a ACP - Advanced Care Paramedic. Claude has been teaching first aid at all levels for many years in both English and his native language of French. Janet Wholey is a Registered Nurse and has been teaching first aid for years. Like all of instructors, Janet is an experienced practitioner who brings real life experiences to her classes. Meghan Smith comes from the life guarding world with a fantastic energy that everyone loves. Her practical teaching methods keeps the class hopping. Yevonne Le Lacheur, BSc (Hons) brings to her Non Violence and Crisis Intervention classes her professional education and experience. Yevonne is currently enrolled at Acadia University in a BED program and is working towards her Master Degree in Psychology. John Brown, BEd is another one of our former Life Guards with first hand experience at various sporting events. John is known as our gentle giant standing 6 foot 4. He size is only dwarfed by his amazing energy he bring to his classes. Pam Grace come to our team from the IWK hospital. Her great sense of humor and laugh is infectious with her classes. Her positive spirit comes through fairly quickly when you meet her making Pam a great asset. Paul Harnish is a 25 year ACP - Advanced Care Paramedic. Not only does he have a lifetime of experience that her brings to his courses, Paul is very sought after trainer worldwide. We are very fortunate to have Paul onboard our team of professionals. Jocelyn Bailey (Lewis) is a PCP - Primary Care Paramedic. A new mom Joce is a great trainer. Her first hand experience in the field and energy makes every class an enjoyable one for participants. Kirk Outhouse ACP- Advanced Care Paramedic can be found under the supervision of Claude Comeau. Another one of our team with field experience that transfers easily to the classroom. Erin Schaus, BSc, BEd, MEd is a Science Teacher and Math teacher and international referee in Canoe and Kayak. When not teaching Erin can be found at any given sporting event. Her down to earth approach to teaching makes Erin a well sought after trainer. James Whitehead comes from working with EMS in Toronto and is currently working in communications at Capital Health. A journalist by formal training, James is a great communicator. Combined with his background in EMS and Life Guarding, James has a great presence in class. John Eddy is a BSc-Kinesiolgy student in his 3rd and a Life Guard. John is one our summer instructors who has a great practical sense to teaching. Amy Buckland, EMR, is a volunteer Fire Fighter with HRM. Amy is the newest member of our team and so far has impressed us with her knowledge and friendly demeanor.
